The Capital City Chorus Celebrates 60 years!

In 1957 a few good men from the Ottawa region came together to sing Barbershop Harmony, forming the Capital City Chorus. Since then, the chorus has grown and changed, there have been several directors and many new members, but remains still, a group of good men who sing well in the barbershop style.

Over the last 60 years, the Capital City Chorus has sung extensively around the region: Anthems at sporting events, Christmas shows, themed shows, Westfest, charitable events, for City Hall, contests on the Ontario and the International stages, and so much more. As well, many quartets from the chorus regularly venture out into the community to sing Valentines, Birthdays, and other special events.

While singing is the primary focus of the chorus, they contribute extensively to three main charitable organizations: Sing Canada Harmony, Harmonize for Speech, and The Boys and Girls Club Camp Smitty. The Capital City Chorus is happy to say that close to $1 million in cash, labour, and materials have been donated to these three charities to the benefit of many people with speech issues, people who need money to further their musical experiences or education, and kids in need who benefit from a summer camp experience like no other.

Now, to celebrate their 60th Anniversary the Capital City Chorus is excited to put on an incredible show of vocal harmony and showmanship taking the audience through songs and historical elements of the past 60 years. The show will take place on Saturday, September 30 at the Algonquin Commons Theatre.
